Supreme Court Leads Digitalization of E-Payments

The Supreme Court of Sri Lanka has taken a significant step towards the digitalization of judicial services with the introduction of an electronic payment facility for case-related fees. The initiative was officially launched on September 10 at the Supreme Court premises in Colombo under the patronage of Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena.

Through this new facility, members of the legal profession as well as the public will be able to make payments—including fines, case fees, stamp duties, and charges for certified copies—via debit and credit cards, in addition to secure online transactions.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by members of the Judicial Service Commission, President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka Rajiv Amarasuriya, and court registrars.

In parallel, the Ministry of Justice has announced the commencement of a broader digitalization programme aimed at expediting the modernization of court services. This initiative is scheduled to be launched formally on September 12 at the Judicial Training Institute in Hulftsdorp, with the participation of Justice Minister Harshana Nanayakkara, under the guidance of Chief Justice Surasena.
